ENGINEERING STUDIES FOR HYDRO ONE
The Hydro One Maintenance Building is used to service 90ft high transformers while draining polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) into large underground storage tanks.
The Challenge
Design a practical solution to protect the underground PCB storage tanks. Engineering studies revealed that the public and private water supply was inadequate for a traditional foam system.
The Solution
Nadine International Inc. designed and managed the construction of a new Integrated Compressed Air Foam (ICAF) System to protect the underground storage tanks. This system was the first application for protecting large underground storage tanks.
The Results
The ICAF system eliminates the need to update existing water supply. Since the ICAF system uses a quarter of the water supply required for a regular foam system, Hydro One did not need to make a very large investment in providing additional water supply.
